Time to fight for a change
You've of course heard that Van Jones "resigned" from his position overseeing the creation of green jobs for the White House. Disappointing on a whole lot of levels. Fortunately, Jack Turner posts a righteous rant that saves my shoulder from having to write it myself.

This White House, this administration and this president failed Van, failed its supporters and failed to honor the efforts of millions that got them into office in the first place. What’s the point of having power if you don’t use it? When will this White House realize that nothing it does will ever be acceptable to the loud-mouthed, ignorant minority? When will it learn that you cannot negotiate with terrorists??Forgive the long quote but read the rest anyway. I think he sums up what a lot of us are feeling very well. I don't why Obama expects us to fight for him if he won't stand up to the crazies like Beck and the howling hyenas of the GOP when they challenge us. [via mattbastard]
I’m heartbroken over Van’s departure because it’s these little meaningless concessions that undermine people’s faith in the system. You get folks all riled up about change. You empower a man who embodies that change. And they you let him be run out of office by fucking Glenn Beck? So Glenn Beck is running the White House now? Is that how it’s gonna be? Just tell me that I knocked on all those doors for nothing, and I can start the grieving process, but don’t pretend this will solve anything.
I can’t help but look at this spineless response and see it in contrast to the previous administration. You know how gansta they are? DICK CHENEY IS STILL TALKING SMACK! You don’t see anyone of prominence telling him to shut up. The man who has been wrong about everything gets the full support of his party, yet President Obama can’t find enough audacity to stick up for a true change agent?
How do you expect folks to continue to go to the mat for your agenda, when you so easily sacrifice our best and brightest at the whim of an illegitimate lynch mob? How do you expect the next generation to invest themselves in the political process when they see that despite their good works, they can be taken out over nonsense, especially when the double standard is so abundantly clear? How can you ask from us what you won’t do for us? And when will you realize that you cannot negotiate with terrorists?

Because, of course, elections only matter when the patricians win.
I'm in the head today where I wonder if they matter at all, Diane. So little has changed.
Libby: you know you are one of my heroes but I have to take issue with this one Sister. Jones brought way too much baggage to be at least on the payroll of the Obama Administration. I'm sure he knows his stuff but as Diane alluded to, good deeds don't matter when the opposition has a big list of things you wish you hadn't said. Axlerod and the President should have learned the lesson after all the crap about Ayers and Rev. Wright. There are just enough idiots out there to sway an election based on lies and BS. WE can't give the bad guys any ammo.
Sorry Truth, they're not going to stop howling no matter what he does. Time to stand up to them. Jones didn't do anything so bad. He called the GOPers assholes. They are. He signed some petition when everyone was doing it, asking for investigation into 9/11. Hell, it wasn't such an outlandish theory really considering a 9/11 type incident was at the heart of the PNAC plan. Gotta stand and fight sometime, and I think the time is now. Every time you give in to them, they get worse.
Libby, the problem is not only clear, but is illustrated in these very comments:
Republicans defend war criminals.
Democrats only defend perfect and spotless Democrats, and not even then, generally.
Who's going to win every fight when we hold Democrats to a far higher standard than we hold Republicans? e.g. it's OK for them to be Birthers and Deathers, but it ISN'T OK for somebody to be a "Truther"?
We let THEM frame the moral issue, and then pick ourselves to pieces from the inside -- the circular firing squad.
They were in that mode for a couple of months, but they're back to defending war criminals and crimes, because it doesn't matter what you've done, as long as you're a Republican.
good lord.
Hart Wms.
Exactly the problem Hart. Jones is the new Dan Rather, and they're like wild animals after their first taste of blood. I've already seen a hit list of who they're going after next. Giving in just encourages them to get even more crazy.
What Ayers and Rev Wright should have taught the WH is that GOP does NOT have the effect on elections they keep hoping for; otherwise Obama would not be president.
The problem is when the WH caves to the insane demands of the GOP, they leave nothing for supporters to defend and stand up for.
I agree with Libby, giving in just encourages them and if we give up, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Well, you see, someone who allegedly questioned the motives* of the President has no business on the government payroll - or for that matter, in America. Even if he never said it, or was never arrested in LA, or has no criminal record (see http://tinyurl.com/nuue5y ). Even if some rather unsophisticated terrorists DID manage to penetrate our defenses successfully 3 out of 4 times in the course of one morning, without a shot being fired at them. Even if we DID end up in a disasterous, illegal and totally unrelated war with a dictator against whom said president had a personal grudge as a result. The important thing is that the average complexion of the administration be as light as possible.
* does not apply to possible plots to indoctrinate our schoolchlidren into marxism by engouraging them to do well in school
Yes, it's OK by the magick power of IOKIYAR™ to post stuff like this, but lord help us if someone refers to Republicans (and himself, BTW) as "assholes":

Now Van Jones takes his place alongside Rev. Jeremiah Wright in the pantheon of "racist" Blacks who dared to criticize White Men.
Really, really angry and stupid White Men. And yes, Libby, several of these yahoos were INVOLVED in the Dan Rather assassination-by-phony-insinuation.
