Latin Americas continue to tilt to the left
Ollanta Humala, running on a platorm to free his nation's poor from free-market economics and U.S. policy, had garnered about 27 percent of the vote in the early returns in Peru's presidential election. Not enough for an outright win but he's guaranteed a spot in the mandated runoff. Humala, who enjoys the support of Hugo Chavez, also opposes U.S.-backed programs in Peru to eradicate coca.
A lot of people worry about these "leftists" coming into power in Latin America but I think it's a good sign. I'm certainly not comfortable with everything they do but if we're ever going to break the stranglehold of the international corporatocracy, these are the kind of leaders that are going to do it.
