Something For the New Pepsi Generation
It's finally summertime and just when you think it couldn't get any better, Pepsi is introducing a cucumber flavored soft drink. Oh yummy! Don't get too excited now, it's just in Japan.
The Japanese diet has always amazed or grossed me out, but this seems to be something that would really take off. What would the discriminating Japanese gourmand choose to wash down his meal that was dredged up from the ocean's floor? Pepsi Ice Cucumber.

The soft drink, which hit stores here on Tuesday, doesn't actually have any cucumber in it—but has been artificially flavored to resemble "the refreshing taste of a fresh cucumber," said Aya Takemoto, spokeswoman of Japan's Pepsi distributor, Suntori Ltd.
"We wanted a flavor that makes people think of keeping cool in the summer heat," Takemoto said."We thought the cucumber was just perfect."Now if they have fish flavored ice cream you could build one hell of a float.

Cucumber in a drink does sound pretty yucky, but I have friends in England who make a mixed drink comprised of cucumbers, lemonade and Pimms (some sort of liquor they sell over there) and it's surprisingly good even though you can really taste the cucumber.
I guess with enough sugar (and alcohol) anything is palatable!
