Ask a Marine

By Libby

I picked this up at World Gone Mad. Brian has a knack for uncovering links to blogs you might never find yourself and this one is powerful. The writer, a Marine herself who returned from a tour in Iraq to have a baby, lost her husband, also a Marine, while he was on the extended leg of his latest tour in the sandpit. She pens an open letter to Americans. Here's the opening graf.
I am SICK of all this bullshit people are writing about the Iraq war. I am abso-fucking-lutely sick to death of it. What the fuck do most of you know about it? You watch it on TV and read the commentaries in the newspapers or Newsweek or whatever god damn yuppie news rag you subscribe to and think you’re all such fucking experts that you can scream at each other like five year olds about whether you’re right or not. Let me tell you something: unless you’ve been there, you don’t know a god damn thing about it. If you haven’t been shot at in that fucking hell hole, SHUT THE FUCK UP!
Then she tells you what she really thinks. It's not long and it's brutally honest. Read the whole thing for yourself.

Update: I tried to figure out if this was legit and didn't find anything that said it wasn't. In fact I didn't find anything at all about it except that a lot of people posted it and it appears to have been a craigslist posting originally.
Callimachus
just linked in, with some good sleuthing that would suggest it might be a hoax. But as I said in comments, a lot of people have linked to it and whether it's true or not, a lot of people believe it.

That's overwhelming. I think it's something that needs to be sent to every newspaper, Every Republican blogger and to the media.

Maybe I should print it out and nail it on the white house gates?

But before I do that I'd rather have some provenance. Although I can't find anything showing it's a hoax, it first appeared on Craigs List without any verifiable name on it.

None the less it is compelling.

It occurred to me that it could be a hoax a while after I posted it Fogg, but I went to the Edwards thing and didn't have time to check out Snopes. It was a clearly a Craig's list item.

It's still a powerful piece and it could be true. It sort of had the ring of authenticity to me.
