The Oh-So-Binding Resolution On the Democrats

Today in the Senate the non-binding and non-thinking resolution on Attorney General Gonzales was turned back with ease by a divided senate. The vote was seven short of the 60 needed. All this does is further cement in the minds of the people the fact that the democrats have no plan and no leadership.
"If senators cast their vote with their conscience, they would speak with near unanimity that there is no confidence in the attorney general," said the resolution's author, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. "Their united voice would undoubtedly dislodge the attorney general from the post that he should no longer hold."
Sweet Lord, they have lost all contact with reality. The senate will never speak with unanimity on something so obviously political. When they had the opportunity to stand up to Bush over Iraq they ran for cover and then this is what they come up with.

You know I hate to agree with Trent Lott on anything but man does he have this circus figured out. Of course, one of the headlining clowns should know something about a circus.
"This is a nonbinding, irrelevant resolution proving what? Nothing," Lott said. "Maybe we should be considering a vote of no confidence on the Senate or on the Congress for malfunction and an inability to produce anything."
So this is the democratic majority that we prayed and worked so hard for. This is what they dreamed of doing following six years of being left out of the legislative process. It is just so pathetic.

Well, Jim...the Senate majority is pretty slim, and of course, Reid can't count on Lieberman, so it's effectively a 50-50 tie where issues of pure politics like this one crop up.

The solution, I guess, is to elect more Democrats.

I think so Joe, but I would like for them to pursue their agenda and let Bush and the republicans block them. The American people don't like that, but right now the dems just look ineffective.

I agree, with the caveat that I don't think "gotcha" issues like this one should be part of the agenda. Bush and the Republicans are so vulnerable on Iraq right now, not to mention having a feeding frenzy among themselves over immigration, that petty politics like this will only tend to make us Dems look both inneffective and vindictive.

Gonzales is a crony and a fool, and I'm confident he's been exposed as such sufficiently by this point. Bush is as lame a duck as ever was, and the extent of the damage he can do for the next year and a half is limited to Iraq, Iran, and, possibly Afghanistan. Not to mention illegal immigration, but my views on that are decidedly Blue Dog. Let's block him on the important issues, rather than cultivating a combative image that would please the netroots to no end, but piss off 20-30% of the electorate.
