Media Bytes - Show biz edition

By Libby

All your bytes belong to Crooks and Liars.

I almost missed this charming success story. Cliff Schecter bit ABC where it hurts and managed, with a little help from his friends, to get Fred Thompson kicked off the ABC radio. Good for him. I'm all for free speech but it hardly seems fair for a candidate, declared or not, to be getting a public forum of this sort without giving equal time to all the candidates.

It's all about the Benjamins. Media Bloodhound uncovers the secret connection between Chris Matthews and Ann Coulter. This really explains a lot about why a bilious harpie like Coulter would merit any air time on his show, much less a full hour.

Former Nixon White House Counsel John Dean looks into the future and sees "the Libby defense." If he's right, and I see no reason to think he's not, this commutation is going to haunt Bush for the rest of his term, at least.

Animation of the day comes via Bob Geiger and his fabulous Saturday funnies. Dick Cheney starring in a cartoon version of "Wouldn't it be Loverly?

I didn't get around to mocking Krazy Bill Kristol's latest tour guide to la-la land, but you know I just can't muster up the snark on Billy anymore. I don't even care what he says. In fact I think it's fine that he wallows in his rose colored neo-con fantasy land but it does piss me off that Time magazine gives him a forum for his lunatic ravings.

The man has been wrong about everything in the last six years and has been reduced to stating outright falsehoods, which are easily vetted, to support his position. How many chances does he get before the major media stop printing his self-serving, deceitful screeds verbatim as if they were fact? Time's editorial negligence is just sickening.

And speaking of sickening, SICKo seems to be giving Big Blue a bad case of indigestion. Michael Moore has the memo. In full disclosure, I have no idea if the memo is real. I don't follow Moore. I know next to nothing about him. I haven't seen the movie. In fact the only Moore movie I've ever seen is Roger and Me. But I don't doubt that Big Blue is worried.

And finally, why I love Lance Mannion. Next lifetime I want to be able to write like this.
