A Day For Revolutionary Thoughts

A final observation on the 231st anniversary of that momentous day. I finished this day in the company of other Americans, celebrating the birth of this nation. The ages ranged from a 101 year old veteran of WWII to a six month old and every age in between. We ate, we drank and laughed and then watched the young folks shoot off fireworks into the misty Virginia sky.

There was no talk of Bush, or war or Scooter or any of that. These were just Americans reveling in being American. We did not need to speak of patriotism or politics, we were members of a community that had veterans present representing four generations of soldiers and veterans. There were veterans present of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq I, and Iraq II. And not one word was said of it.

You see, there is no need to wear uniforms or medals or talk of sacrifice, sacrifice is to be expected. To fight wars in defense of liberty will always be necessary and when the call goes out, Americans will respond. When evil shows it's face Americans will fight it whether that evil threatens us or enslaves others. America must always aid those people who strive to be free.

That being said, America deserves leadership that is equal to the competency of it's citizens. The present government is not worthy and is letting down the people. It represents us in no positive way and should remember that a nation formed through revolution may once again have to exercise that option

The present government and I include the congress and judiciary are out of step with America. The people's voice is weak and is shouted down by special interests. The church wields too much power with the help of an ultra-conservative Supreme Court majority and the executive has seized untraditional powers. The time for change is coming and if a third political party doesn't achieve some type of change, then a more traditional and historical method of change may have to be employed.

Is this treason? Possibly, but to paraphrase Mr. Patrick Henry if it is let's make the most of it.
