The Search For Free Will

Scientists at the University of Berlin have discovered some evidence of free will in the simple fruit fly.

Now, pause and think about that for a minute........
If scientists can find free will in fruit flies then it's just possible they could find some in republicans. I know, I know, it's a long shot, but it's definitely possible.

Some time in the future scientists might just find a republican that is actually for pulling out of Iraq some time in this century. They might find one that is for raising taxes to pay for one of their unnecessary little wars or at least trying to cut spending in some other area.

If these two things are possible then they could go for the biggie and try to find a republican who is pro-choice, a republican who thinks a woman can be responsible for her own body. Wow, what a concept.

In the last couple of weeks we have heard rumors of republican candidates for president making some statements along these lines and actually showing free will. Chris Wallace of Foxnews at last night's republican debate showed what a monumental task any team of scientists will have.
"Congressman Paul, you're one of six house Republicans who back in 2002 voted against authorizing President Bush to use force in Iraq. Now you say we should pull our troops out. A recent poll found that 77% of Republicans dissaprove of the idea of setting a timetable for withdrawal. Are you running for the nomination of the wrong party?
This is what any trailblazing scientist will be up against; if you find any free will in republicans then you will be accused of studying the wrong species.

Who knows what will come of this, but science is moving into uncharted territory. Who knows where this will lead. Perhaps some brave scientist will attempt to find that rarest of species: the Moderate Republican.

Our moral freedom, like other mental powers, is strengthened by exercise. The practice of yielding to impulse results in enfeebling self-control. The faculty of inhibiting pressing desires, of concentrating attention on more remote goods, of reinforcing the higher but less urgent motives, undergoes a kind of atrophy by disuse. Have you had a mutation of the mind? Salvation will come with the progressive relief of the traumatic elements.
PEACE BE WITH YOU
