Who's on first? I don't know is on second...
Call me suspicious, but I don't see a whole hell of lot being done in New Orleans. I keep hearing they haven't even started picking up bodies and that hundreds, if not thousands of volunteer first responders are hanging around with nothing to do, because no one is in charge. And it sure doesn't appear that there's exactly a ton of heavy equipment working on repairing the city. All you see on TV a few helicopters with sand bags and a couple of cranes at best. The streets appear to be empty except for thousands of soldiers and LEO types and there's only 10,000 people left to rescue. So when I hear this:
Am I the only one thinking that the president's delay in responding to this crisis had more to do with figuring out how they were going to route pork barrel contracts for relief services to their pals, rather than figuring how to help the most Americans with our limited resources?
Call me crazy, but it's now nine days later and Cheney has just surfaced to be dispatched to the disaster zone while Halliburton was virtually the first company to be awarded clean up contracts. I don't know how you see it, but this rescue and recovery effort is beginning to look like an Abbot and Costello skit to me. Unfortunately, the joke is at the taxpayer's expense.
White House Press spokesman Scott McClellan said the $10.5 billion down payment approved last week "is being spent more quickly than we even anticipated. There will be more that will be needed," he said.I have to ask myself, spent on what? We gave DHS billions already to prepare for disaster relief. All they came up with was a bunch of new jobs for their political cronies and a 400 page rule book that no one can follow. Now the White House, who couldn't even be bothered to figure out what to do with 500,000 survivors for over a week, now all of sudden is asking for $50 billion more - just to start.

You have good reason to be suspicious. MyDD is reporting that reporters are being turned away from the city by National Guard personnel. There's also news today that FEMA is prohibiting news agencies from taking any pictures of the dead, which is beyond comprehension. Americans just sat through horrible, unspeakable pictures of people suffering and dying while they waited for help. Does the government think we can't deal with pictures of death or are they trying to contain the floodgate of anger they've unleased? It's too late for that.
In regards to the extra funds the Bush administration is requesting, who's going to oversee that money to make sure the victims get every cent they need? New York City was promised a boatload of money by the Bush administration, but the government failed to deliver as promised. There's no reason to expect any better this time judging by the Halliburton contract.
Well, we're sure that Dear Leader's self-appointed commission and the House/Senate commision, coincidentally formed without the knowledge of Democrats and chaired by Republicans, will do lots of "hard work" to get to the bottom of this - at about the same time that it snows in hell.
YIKES! And some people still believe in this guy?
