No safe bets in 08

By Libby

I'm not a big believer in polls in general and I think at this point in the silly season, which started way too early as it is, they're effectively meaningless. For one thing they contradict each other regularly. I saw one earlier in the week that said the war was low and the list and immigration was the big issue. Today the WaPo has a poll that says the opposite.

There's only one clear trend that I see emerging in these statistics. There's a roiling cauldron of voter discontent throughout the entire country and the people are sick of partisan politics and are hungry for leaders who can unite us and end the bitter polarization both inside and outside the beltway. Unfortunately all they're being offered is a bunch of professional politicians.

Absent some huge defining event, I think this is one time that truly no one will be able to predict how that discontent will manifest at the ballot box.

I think you are mistaken in one respect: there is NO ONE who can unite a country with a gargantuan government such as ours. a 3 trillion dollar monolith simply moves too much in one direction even if it takes a baby step. This is why i never bought into the obama hype. The preson people are looking for DOESN'T EXIST.

it's the same in the middle east. They keep looking for people who will do what they want AND have crediblity with their people. They aren't out there. They could have ten regime changes in iran or Pakistan. Yuo will never find a pro israel, pro us hegemnoy leader who is also capable of being elected in an election.

If Hillary wins, the right will have to grin and bear socialized medicine the same way the left has had to grin and bear the iraq war. the fact is there is no good way to "use" the federal governmetns power, just different bad partisan ways

You're not the first person to tell me that NO ONE can unite us but that doesn't mean the people aren't hungry for one Lester.

I don't want to be united. I want liberty and propserity not unity.

I want to NOT be united.
