The A-list in summer

By Libby

There's nothing particularly remarkable about this op-ed piece, How We Won the Mainstream. It's an Internet 101 remedial for the Beltway types who haven't figured out that the mythical centrists don't exist, have never existed and that what our "serious" punditry calls the fringe is really the mainstream. But of course, if you're here, you read blogs and you already knew that.

No, what struck me about this is the blurb at the end about the authors.
Susan Gardner is a contributing editor to and holds a fellowship with the Web site Daily Kos. Markos Moulitsas is founder of Daily Kos.

Kos has fellowships? Like CATO or Brookings or Heritage Foundation? Who knew?

Meanwhile, I haven't linked to Duncan since the blogroll purge but he is right about this.
The conservative cult's mass death wish is obviously based on a faulty premise, that if there's a terrorist attack they and Dear Leader will somehow be vindicated. Of course the reverse is true. When it comes to "the war on terra," George Bush and the conservative movement have pretty much gotten everything they've wanted. Democrats and dirty fucking hippie bloggers, despite complaints, haven't managed to stop the Bush administration from doing what they think is important.

For all our outrage and activism we haven't changed our Reckless Leader's preferred course one millimeter. But that's not why I'm linking to him today. If you scroll up and down a bit from that post, he's put up pictures from his undisclosed location and I love guessing games.

My immediate reaction on seeing his lunch of giant prawns and the tomatoes at the veggie market, was to guess he was in New Orleans. But then I considered that no person in their right mind would willingly go to Louisana in August, so I'm guessing he's in Seattle.

Well, I'm never at a loss when I visit over here. You're certainly right that left forces haven't done a thing to stop the administration, except tie up the Senate a bit with some wasted votes all year.

You're wrong though that the left fringe is mainstream. I guess in your view if you project your radical ideology long enough toward the center, maybe someday you'll get there.

Oh, Kos doesn't have fellowships of the type to which you compare. Maybe they've started a newer version, for anti-Semitic preschoolers.

(P.S.: Is that enough paragraph spaces?)

Donald, I appreciate your attention to proper paragraph structure but I still won't engage with you because to be brutally frank, it's a waste of time and I don't have enough of it to bother knocking down your straw men. Sorry, but you're a lost cause.

It's clear you will never concede a point. You make declarative statements that are patently untrue and you try to goad me into responding with childish, condescending remarks about my courage and productivity.

Jim, for reasons that are incomprehensible to me, likes you. I suggest if you're lonely and need conversation, you engage with him.
