No, No, A Thousand Times No!

The democrats once again went to the White House with a proposal for a war funding bill that stripped domestic spending but included timetables for troop withdrawal. The democrats stipulated that Bush could waive compliance with the timetables for withdrawal.

What a bunch of idiots. What was the White House response to this proposal? A resounding "NO!" No timetables even if they can be ignored.
White House chief of staff Joshua Bolten, who rejected the deal, said any timetable on the war would undermine the nation's efforts in Iraq."We consider that to be not a significant distinction," he said. "Whether waivable or not, timelines send the wrong signal."
How long is this going to go on? Bush will not give in, he can't. This adventure in Iraq is all Bush and the republicans have. To give in is to cut and run from the 2008 election.

Praying for a miracle isn't much of a political strategy, but when that's all you've got you better not give in. The House republican leader has been assigned the job of beating this dead horse.
John Boehner of Ohio accused Democrats of seeking "an arbitrary surrender date" and said the GOP has enough votes "to sustain the president's veto on any bill" along those lines.
I suppose that when the truth is not something you really want to get into you revert to the old talking points. Who are we surrendering to John? We won the war years ago, it's you guys who seem to be losing the peace, but you are so right about Bush's sustainable veto.

The democrats need to work out the best bill they can with performance guidelines for Badhdad to follow and then give Bush what he wants. The rest of the democrats national agenda is going nowhere. The best way to lose their new majority is to continue to do nothing and fight political battles they can't win.

The war in Iraq belongs to Bush and republicans. They are fighting to the last to secure ownership. Let them have it.

why don't the republicans trade iraq for immigration with the dems. the dems don't actually care about hispanics and the republicans don't actually care about Iraq. Leave iraq and we'll let you do any draconian illegal imigration measures you want. would anyone have a problem with that? Are there people to whom soldiers dying for nothing and mexico continuining to crumble is a vital importance?

what idiots is right, the dems are idiots and the repugs are idiots. but who are the biggest idiot? The dems will cave, fund the war and the killing will continue, i think it's the american people that are the biggest idiots.

Lester,
are you serious?
first, you don't "trade" one issue for another (what an idiot)
second, illegal immigration is not something that repugs really care about (in fact they are all for it - how else would they get such cheap labor?) They will never do anything to make ALL workers in america leagal - it would hurt the bottom line

it's amazing how wrong you are, the only reason Repuglican politicians care about immigration is because it is not Iraq. Rebuglican voters only care about immigration because thier politicians have whipped them into a frenzy. But no matter what the repug politicians say, they dont want change, the people who give them money dont want change, so they will not be the ones to change it.
