Recall vote on Spokane Mayor

I'm glad to see this. There was a big todo over the local newspaper having conducted a sting operation last May to prove that Spokane's ourspokenly homophobic Mayor James West used his office to obtain sexual favors from very young men.

Most of the dead tree media sneered at The Spokesman-Review's tactics but I said then, and I still maintain, this was based on professional jealousy because they were doing what these other guys aren't - namely investigative reporting. If the Spokesman-Review had waited for the cops to do something about it, West would be still be trolling the internet for "dates."

This expose was a public service reminiscent of the days of real reporting and the public has responded. The mayor will face a recall vote in December. Here's hoping he gets what he deserves and the rest of the news media get the idea that this is what real journalism looks like.
