Obama, Dems & blogger outreach
Blogtopia is buzzing about the bloggers conference call with Obama. Invite only and only a few were invited. Obviously, I was not one of them.
They're all posting transcripts of their Qs and passing on the President's message. Shorter version seems to be: "Trust us. It's a process. We're making progress. Keep pushing Congress." That last bit conflicts with the message of last week that no one is supposed to speak ill of the Blue Dogs. Whatever.
Amanda Marcotte's response sums up my view of the matter.

Here’s what it looks like from the viewpoint of Joe or Jane Voter: The bank bailout was a giant giveaway of our money to the assholes who got us into this horrible economic situation, a giant payoff as a thank you for fucking us over and pissing in our faces. The economic stimulus package doesn’t seem to have any effect at all on the exploding unemployment rate. We’re still in an unwinnable war in Iraq. Outside of appointing a popular Supreme Court justice, the Democrats have done nothing for us. [...]Not sure what that acroynm means. Assume it's Dump The Misguided Fool Altogether. Or something like that. But she's right about the Dems. Those of us who ride the 24/7 newscycle daily understand the process, even when we don't like it. But the average Jake just sees results, or lack thereof. To the majority of the electorate, the Dems continuing inability to stand up to the GOPers and push their own agenda looks like little more than cowardice. It's not going to win them any votes in 2010.
...Sometimes Democrats feel like that boyfriend who tells you over and over how much you mean to him, but then he doesn’t call, forgets dates, and gives you a card and a CD for a band you told him you didn’t like for your birthday. And after you’ve put up with it for awhile, you DTMFA.

You're right as usual. Although reminding the voters of the misery that Bush accomplished is good strategy, we still need results to back up our claim to be better at governing.
Does the fact that it took over ten years to end the Great Depression mean that Roosevelt was a bad president?
Truth, we have more work to do if we want to salvage the Dem party.
Fogg, you changed your grav! I like it. And I'm not saying Obama is failing. I was just saying yesterday that Obama just signs the bills, he doesn't write them.
And isn't that a big step up from that Texas bastard?
It's too hot to wear that rain gear this time of year!
If the wingnuts weren't obstructing appointments and keeping Pres. O. from getting people in place to enforce the laws, which is his actual function, we might be getting farther along. Yesterday's antics on the floor, keeping from action on health by complaining about the stimulus not yet restoring jobs the wingers wiped out for ten years, shows how much respect for the truth and reality we can look for from the right wing.
"DTMFA" is a commonly used acronym, I think it is from Dan Savage (?)...
"Dump The Mother F&*%#$ Already."
Hey Fogg. Good point to remember when I get discouraged. It's still light years better.
Ruth, I understand it's not easy but I continue to think that the Dems could be doing much more to shut down the obstruction. I seem to recall the GOPers were able to push their crap during the Bush era without much trouble.
MWP, always glad to see you. Thanks for the translation. Apparently I'm not aware of ALL internet traditions. :)
