Almost there...

We're so close to the end of this long national nightmare. I'm going to make this a sticky post at the top. New content below.

RANDOM THOUGHT: Is anyone else wondering what's going to happen to the countdown clock when it hits zero? I'm hoping for a fireworks display or something. Also, technically, it's 12 hours off since they don't give the oath till noon.

NOTE: The countdown clock was a huge disappointment so in a fit of pique I decided to delete it. Don't need it anymore and it didn't do anything cool like turn into fireworks at noon.

Oo.

What a long, strange trip it's been.

It won't be long now. I feel like I'm holding my breath.

And Truth, if this is your last bastion of sanity, you must live in a crazy world indeed. :)

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, not another 12 hours. I've been counting on the countdown clock. If you can't count on that what can you count on.

Really DLB. I was thinking the same thing. Here I was all excited that's it's almost over. Still at this point it's less than 24 hours.

Quite the contrary--and I'm sorry to be such a wet blanket--but it's one thing to look at the mess we're in and say, "...well, it's not my fault. It's those damn 'Thugicans." But how are we going to feel 8 years from now when nothing has changed and we know that Democrats were unable (more likely unwilling) to undo the damage?

I'm going to blog on this tomorrow. Here we are on the cusp of getting rid of this worthless presidential charlatan, and I'm less hopeful than I've ever been.

LOL Kvatch. You can't dampen my joy today. I know there will be disappointments down the line, but I can't imagine how it could be worse than the last 8 years. I don't know why, since I'm as jaded as the next poli-junkie, probably more so, but I've been assimiliated. I have hope and I'm going to enjoy the feeling while it lasts.

No doubt the nuttery will try to sabotage our president's agenda, no doubt the free traders and their corporatists will be doling out lobbyist money as candy, no doubt the radio shock jocks will disparage everything reasonable and rational, but ... yes ... lets savor this moment and hope for a better outcome.

Is the countdown clock some sort of homage to Bush, by being as incompetent as he is? It seems to be more of a rough guesstimate.

8pus, today we savor, tomorrow we fight. And we will have to fight.

DLB, the clock is a joke, eh? I fell asleep before it reset. I was hoping to wake up to fireworks.

It's hard for me to savor anything, knowing that the assault is about to begin. The American Hamas will never accept anyone I consider sane, intelligent and honest and they won't rest until Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin rule the world. It hardly matters that they are a minority, and I'm not sure they really are.

I think they're shrinking into irrelevancy Fogg. Irritating but no more important than a cloud of fruit flies. I hope to live to see the day when they're consigned to shouting at passersby on street corners.

I see it more like melanoma - pretty hard to get rid of, no matter how much it looks like you did.

But it's obvious you can't get a good countdown clock any more!

I was just saying at Eschaton that it's like a fungus. Once you get that mildew on your walls, it's really hard to get rid of, but not impossible.
