Recognizing "the enemy"

By Libby

Remember the big corporate tax amnesty Bush gave out a few years ago, that he called a job creation program? Corporations brought in tons of off-shore money for pennies on the dollar, that they were supposed to invest in America. Mostly they used it to buy back their own stock and line the pockets of the upper crust of the investor class. But to the extent that they used it to create jobs, they are giving those jobs to legal immigrants who will work for less than Americans in the high paying fields.

For all those who want to punish the illegals who are taking minimum wage jobs that nobody wants, it strikes me that taking revenge on the poorest workers is sort of like cutting off your nose to spite your face. It only plays into the government's hands by taking the focus off the work visas that are routinely passed out to white collar immigrants. This policy does much more harm to American workers.

I hope you don't mind. I just found your blog and I had to comment. I completely agree with you on how that was wrong for Bush to allow those types of breaks for big business. Just the like the national debt, it seems government and corporations get off easy.

However, for individuals who have circumstances out of their control, I believe that state and federal tax amnesty can be a blessing. Have you ever known anyone who was legitimately in trouble with IRS? It is a pretty scary deal.

I have indeed David known individuals who got into trouble with the IRS and it's an awful thing. The corps and the rich folks get all the protection, the little guy gets all the grief.
