Thugs for the Theocracy

I'm not a particularly religious person. I don't go to church now but I was raised in the Protestant faith. I still remember my Sunday School lessons and unlike the rabid Christian fundies, I've read the whole Bible. This particular verse has always stuck with me.
Perhaps the cretins that disrupted the first ever Senate invocation delivered by a Hindu priest would have served their God better by remembering those words. Instead they show their Christian "love" thusly.
Raw Story has the video. Those "good Christians" who proclaimed their hate in the name of God would have done well to listen but even if they are unwilling or unable to show Christian tolerance for their neighbors, perhaps they could go back to their Bibles and remember these words.
That lesson appears to be lost on the zealots but one can only think they're in for a rude awakening when their rapture comes and they find out that "Christian" hate won't get them through the pearly gates.
Update: Capt. Fogg tracks down the contact info on the leader of this gang of Christian thugs, Reverend Flip Benham of the extremist group,
Operation Save America. Fogg has sent him a few thousands words of wisdom. You might want to send a little note yourself.

Mark 12:31: And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Perhaps the cretins that disrupted the first ever Senate invocation delivered by a Hindu priest would have served their God better by remembering those words. Instead they show their Christian "love" thusly.
"Lord Jesus, forgive us father for allowing a prayer of the wicked, which is an abomination in your sight," the first protester shouted. "This is an abomination. We shall have no other gods before You."Rajan Zed, the Hindu priest was only briefly interrupted and managed to deliver his message that sounded pretty much in line with Christian theology to me.
"Let us pray," he began, "We meditate on the transcendental glory of the deity supreme, who is inside the heart of the earth, inside the life of the sky and inside the soul of heaven. May he stimulate and illuminate our minds.
"Lead us from the unreal to real, from darkness to light, and from death to immortality. May we be protected together. May we be nourished together. May we work together with great vigor. May our study be enlightening."
Raw Story has the video. Those "good Christians" who proclaimed their hate in the name of God would have done well to listen but even if they are unwilling or unable to show Christian tolerance for their neighbors, perhaps they could go back to their Bibles and remember these words.
Luke 6:37: Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned, forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.
That lesson appears to be lost on the zealots but one can only think they're in for a rude awakening when their rapture comes and they find out that "Christian" hate won't get them through the pearly gates.

It's hard to think of a prophet, a disciple or a preacher who doesn't think he's a tollgate on the road to God. History is full of it.
The Christian Supremacists who invent their own history and put words in the mouths of the architects of our government are also full of it.
Yesterday I e-mailed several thousands of words of scathing condemnation of Christianity and its churches and it's clerics by Jefferson, Franklin, Madison and others to the Wrong Reverend Flip Benham at Operation Save America. It began with Jefferson's statement that he didn't care about how many gods anyone had.
Wouldn't it be nice if his mailbox was jammed with protest?
I read your post Fogg, but forgot to copy the link and ran out of time this morning. I'm going to add one now so people can send the good Rev a few notes of Christian love.
I'll add my own favorite verse although it's late and I've worked all day into the evening so I'm too lazy to go look up exactly where it's located: "Love one another as I have loved you." Where's the love?
The Christian church, which has become the Christian right is not about love, it is about control and it is willing to pay for it with money and the promise of votes. It is part and parcel of the deeply and disgustingly corrupt government that rules, not represents, America. In this political age, Christianity has become synonymous with greed, corruption, lies, bigotry and racism. It, like our government, from the White House to the bought out Congress, deserves none of our support or respect.
"Christianity has become synonymous with greed, corruption, lies, bigotry and racism."
Has been so for a while.
During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution.
-- James Madison
Good question Rocky.
Good point Brian.
Killer quote Fogg.
