Mitt Romney, Man Without A Clue

Mitt Romney pretty much proved he's out of touch with reality. Speaking to a gathering of 200 people in Iowa he said he wants a bigger military.
The former Massachusetts governor said his plans include boosting the size of the military by at least 100,000 troops and increasing the military budget.
I would think the ongoing war in Iraq will have to be dealt with before then or he will have to raise taxes to pay for his new military to say nothing of replacing the worn out and destroyed equipment used up in Iraq.
"I want to carry the big stick," Romney told about 200 people at an event in Dubuque. "I hope I don't have to use it, but I want to make sure we have it so that people understand we are a nation of strength."
Well, we already have by far the biggest stick around. The fact that the stick has gotten a little soft and a little worm-eaten under Bush's management doesn't mean it's not a big stick. How big a stick can this nation afford without raising taxes? Ask him how he would use this stick to fight terror.
"If you look across the world you can recognize that there is terror going on," Romney said. "... There is a worldwide effort of different people all intent on bringing down modernity and, replacing it, in some respects, with barbarism."
Well, welcome to reality, Mitt. This is nothing new, but the question has been for years now how to deal with it. The neocons and Bush tried the military route to dealing with the Middle Eastern problems only to land us in the biggest mess since Vietnam. With civil wars springing up in several countries the problem could end up being the greatest challenge facing this country since WWII.

I guess there are no votes in talking about alliances and diplomacy when talking to right-wingers who are simultaneously praying for the unborn and cheering for more torture and executions. Shock and awe trumps reasonable discourse any day of the week.

Romney defended President Bush's performance, noting his policies extend beyond Iraq. He called Bush a statesman who has shored up the nation's economy, expanded renewable energy capabilities and chosen appropriate U.S. Supreme Court justices. "Everything he does, he does from the standpoint of what is best for the American people," Romney said.

I'll just let that quote stand on it's own merit, but the only Bush that could apply to might be the elder Bush.

Mr. Romney is trying to be everything to everyone and he ends up being just another empty suit with an empty head to go along with it.

Yes he's dutifully touching on all the shibboleths like a base runner who doesn't know he's already out.

Like most weak and hollow men, he likes to talk about strength and like many stupid men who have spent too much time watching spectator sports, he can't see how the insistence upon winning before negotiation or negotiating only from strength, is a sign of weakness in itself.

You can do better than that fogg. Not only is he incredibly smart, he began learning negotiation while traveling with his father the Gov. of Mich. as he sat in on meetings. Tell us who you like and why, instead of the low easy road of tearing others down. I can see it now, the President of a country with a weak military trying to negotiate while they laugh across the table and plan their attack.

After reading your article, I'm sorry to say this but you're the one without a clue. I am impressed with Mitt's resume. Best of all, he's very positive about the future. It's a matter of time when the public gets to know him more and we'll see a big outcome later.

Sorry, but he promises and tells every group exactly what they want to hear.
Mr. Fitzgerald with our present military just what country is going to laugh and plan their attack?
Romney was speaking of terrorists and our military and just how do you fight terrorism with the army?
We don't need a bigger military just a leader who knows how to properly use it.

Thank goodness he does not appear to be in the running for the actual nomination.

Lester
He's a formidable candidate, until Thompson comes in. I just think Fred's a little too lazy to give up Hollywood for this.
He had the best job in the world, U.S. senator, and he was too lazy to take a sure re-election.
The christianists will not go for McCain or Rudy, it will come down to Mitt and ol' Fred.
