Vetting Sarah Palin

On the assumption that you, my dear highest demoninator readers, do not need the education; I'm doing my public vetting of Mrs. Palin at the Detroit News, where they do. Best to click on the link at the bottom of this post for my archives if you're interested in what I'm saying since my co-bloggers are burning up the real estate over there and you definitely want to avoid JD if you value holding down your lunch. But Mako came up with this YouTube of Rove that is too amusing not to share.

Too cute by half. Mayor of the second largest city in Alaska? Behold, lovely downtown Wasilla.

Graphic via the Alaskan blog Mudflats. The post is worth reading as well.

Wasilla is the ninth largest city, but whose counting? For those of us who remember the pre-election NPR interview with him last year know that Rove has the "real math".

Wasilla has about the same number of people as my city of Davison, Michigan, where as you know, I served on city council for a time. Hey, my wife still serves on the council, so I guess she is only two small steps away from being ready for the position of a Republican Vice-President! She's way cuter than Sarah, too.

It surprises me that anyone thinks reality matters in one of these exhibitions of subspecies chauvinism. She's one of them and not one of us - that's all that matters in this land of fantasy, superstition and magic thinking.

Yeah, she's playing well with the wingnuts. Totally, VPILF and she shoots black rifles. But that crowd was going to vote McCain anyway.

And yet while they continue to salivate over their soccer Mom, pro-life, gun totin' beauty queen they seem to miss the glaring irony of her and her daughter CHOOSING to not terminate their pregnancies while the VP hopeful Smurfette screams her pro-life rhetoric which essentially takes away that same right to choose from millions of women. But since some of them might choose to do something that is not in keeping with the right wing moral dogma, her Veepness in waiting has no problem sticking it to her fellow Americans. And they accuse the Dems of wanting to create a nanny government!
Am I the only one who sees the irony here?

KARL ROVE'S WORDS COME BACK TO HAUNT HIM.
Interesting words by an anonymous poster on the Ben Smith blog (Politico) concerning a statement of Karl Rove about Obama -- James:

Karl Rove on [Obama's] VP Choice: "I think he's going to make an intensely political choice, not a governing choice...He's going to view this through the prism of a candidate, not through the prism of president; that is to say, he's going to pick somebody that he thinks will on the margin help him in a state like Indiana or Missouri or Virginia. He's not going to be thinking big and broad about the responsibilities of president." -Said Karl Rove, anticipating Obama would select Gov Tim Kaine as his VP: "With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he's been a governor for three years, he's been able but undistinguished. I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America. So if he were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, `You know what? I'm really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States? What I'm concerned about is, can he bring me the electoral votes of the state of Virginia, the 13 electoral votes in Virginia?'"
So if, as Karl Rove says, Kaine was a horrible choice that would put politics ahead of the good of the nation, what does this say about the Palin selection? Less experience than Kaine (3 yrs governor vs less than 2), governor of a smaller state, mayor of a smaller city than Kaine (Richmond, VA vs Wasilla, AK), etc . Rove says so himself, McCain made a political, rather than a governing choice. [The person posting this signed it simply "August 31, 2008"]

Hey Rocky. No you're not the only one. It's crazy.

Anon thanks for the link. I posted that one myself at DetNews but it's good to have it here.

I don't know if you read The Nation, but according to them any vetting done at all was done by The Council for National Policy which is an ultra far-right religious group that brokers support for candidates. This is the group Bush had to promise to appoint only anti-abortion judges to in 2000 to get their support.

No wonder he didn't have to meet with her - she was a package deal for him to take or leave. Appoint Sarah or the fundies won't support you.

McCain sold us out - what a maverick! What a traitor!

I think that a certain former talk show host is attempting a comeback disguised as a republican running mate.Think about it! Looks like good talk show material to me. Mr. McCain's camp had better do some real investigating before the democrats discover the truth.
Mrs Palin is really Sally Jessie Raphael.

Fogg, I did hear something about this being pushed on him by a fundie group. I'm sure that's a factor. They're clearly trying to energize the base.

Anon - LOL. I was thinking slap a winged hat on her and she would look just like the flying nun.

Hey rocky. Nice to see you.

Not really trying to be mean here just interjecting some good old american humor to this political stage. Wish I knew how to put in side by side comparison photos.
