Quick bitch

By Libby

The Mighty Righty Ragers are gnawing the Beauchamp story down to the last nub. Today they're all exercised because Scott is refusing to talk to the press, not even to TNR, although the Army claims he can get permission to do so.

Does it ever occur to these rocket scientists that maybe he's refusing to talk to TNR because then he'll have to talk to every obsessed, self-absorbed blogger that wants to recapture their Dan Rather moment? For Chrissake, the man is in a combat zone. He has bigger things to worry about than whether they believe him or not.

You know I'm all for accuracy in reporting and all that but we're talking about a second rate rag that nobody reads or takes seriously anymore anyway. For the love of God, don't these people have anything better to do than gang up on a soldier who is fighting the war they say is so bloody important to the future of civilization?

I mean, maybe they could take just a moment out of their busy schedule in hounding a man who is fighting for what they believe in and pay some attention to the other 130,000 soldiers who are collapsing from exhaustion.

Sorry Fogg, but they're not the publication they once were. Time was I wouldn't miss an issue. Those days are long over, especially since the new editor whatshisname came on board.

Thanks for keeping on this, Libby. One minor correction: "The Mighty Righty Ragers" probably ought to be "The Mighty MORPHIN'Righty Ragers" considering the manner in which their arguments have altered ever since that fateful day when The Weekly Standard's Boston Blogger Michael Goldfarb issued the fatwa against TNR and Beauchamp:

Fact or Fiction?
A mission for milbloggers

Why is Col. Boylan so involved in what ought to be a minor story? Is THIS so important to Petraeus' own PR flack that he would respond instantaneously? Really?

It must be a slow news day for the "surge," unless, of course, this is another disinformation campaign: Look over there! Don't pay attention to the 190,000 missing weapons, the rape-murder convictions, the Pat Tillman stonewalling, etc. etc. etc.

Naw. The officer in charge of all embedded media in Iraq takes the time to quickly help The Weekly Standard's BLOG buttress its position. That's not suspicious at all. Nosirree.

I called in to dennis pragers radio show the other day when he was gonig on and on about this. He said that this was the end of the new republic, fine with me, and how could they be so stupid. He did the same thing when the new york times broke the story abuot the IAEA dumps being raided. which of course turned out to be true. I've asked him abuot it twice and eachtime he says he doesn't remember.

anyway, I said "well this hurts their credibility if it's false, but if it's true doesn't that hurt YOUR crediblity?" he couldn't fathom that.

Eventually it boiled down to this: if the story was correct, the new repubilc were part of the evil ledt wing media who ONLY write negative stories about Iraq. If it is fake, then they are bad journalists and have no crediblity.

heads he wins, tails they lose.

I don't give two shakes about TNR's credibility Lester. What really pisses me off is these, "only we support the troops because we want to keep them in the sandpit" types are ganging up a on effing soldier who is in theater.

Like the guy doesn't have enough to worry about just trying to stay alive?

Thanks, Libby.

Just FYI, turns out that Crooks & Liars outed the current point man in all of this for ... well, a controversy that's as crazy as it is obscene. SEE HERE.

This mess may flip. (And, agreed, Pvt. Beauchamp is the one in jeopardy, not TNR, which seems increasingly an irrelevant pub.)
