Crony appointments and climate change

If memory serves, this came out ages ago while the GOP were still in charge inside the beltway and Bush was still enjoying reasonably hefty approval ratings. However, the story barely survived one news cycle so I'm glad to see it resurfacing.
WASHINGTON, March 19 — A House committee released documents Monday that showed hundreds of instances in which a White House official who was previously an oil industry lobbyist edited government climate reports to play up uncertainty of a human role in global warming or play down evidence of such a role.
It's a good reminder that every single one of our regulatory agencies, that I remind you were formed to protect us from corporate malfeasance, have been put into the hands of crony hacks drawn from the very industries they are supposed to be policing and as a result decades worth of environmental progress has been destroyed as the Bush administration has incrementally pushed back regulations that had cleaned up the destruction these industries caused in the first place.

Ironically the justification for easing the regs is often that they worked so well, the industries can go ahead an pollute again in order to increase their profits and "help build" the economy. That is if they don't decide to use the profits to pay off their CEOs and say, relocate to Dubai...

It's worth noting that it's not just the corporate cronies who were put in charge of the proverbial henhouse. Religious cronies got theirs as well. The Union of Concerned Scientists did a good job cataloguing the abuses at this site http://ucsusa.org/scientific_integrity/interference/a-to-z-guide-to-political.html

they shouldn't have interferred with the scientist stuff, but I think global warming is a myth. it's just people who hate capitlaism. yuo look at the industrial revolution, the skies were filled with soot, little kids had to work long hours, there was no social security and it built this country.

Thanks for the link Kevin.

Lester, I don't understand your point. Are you saying this proves it's a myth or that the industrial revolution excuses us from dealing with it? It's been going on since then and we've progressively become more proficient at polluting.

no, I'm saying there has been tons of pollution since forever. there wil be tons of polution from China and India even if we were to stop completely. animals farting makes pollution or something like worse than cars. I'll believe it when i see it. I don't believe in global warming. I think it is the left wing version of "islamo-fascism"

No offense Lester, but that's just silly. There's room to debate on the causes, but it's simply head in the sand mentality to deny that climate disruption is occurring.

My point has always been, even if it's a natural cycle, it's ridiculous for us not to try to mitigate it. I remind you just because the earth for instance survived major climate changes, I'd point out the dinosaurs didn't...
