George Zimmerman, rip off artist

Apparently, when the hero of the gun crazy crowd isn't busy murdering unarmed teenagers for inciting his personal terror of Skittles, or threatening women, he's taken up more artistic pursuits. Zimmerman's first painting fetched a cool 100K when he put up for auction at EBay this week.

And if that's not enough to gag you, he has fans:
A well-wisher expressed love and support for Zimmerman in a question posted on the eBay auction, telling him there were many people on his side, and the artist replied.

“Thank you so much for the words of kindness and support. I do know how many great Americans are still here, I run into at least 3-5 a day that go out of their way to tell me the same. Your Friend, GZ @therealGeorgeZ.”
Putting aside the disgust, gotta give the guy credit for figuring how to work his grift for the highest return possible. Feel a bit sorry for the winner of the auction though. As it turns out, Georgie's art work wasn't entirely original. Hilariously, it's a rip off of a Democratic Underground logo that was generated from a stock photo. [h/t Atrios]

Which reminded me of the plagiarized Breitbart tribute painting. What it is with crackpot cons and their proclivity to steal real artist's work?

Gun thuggery in Texas

Because nothing says responsible gun owner like terrifying unarmed mall shoppers, open carry crackpots choose to intimidate mothers and innocent bystanders.
On Saturday, nearly 40 armed men, women, and children waited outside a Dallas, Texas area restaurant to protest a membership meeting for the state chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a gun safety advocacy group formed in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

According to a spokeswoman for Moms Demand Action (MDA), the moms were inside the Blue Mesa Grill when members of Open Carry Texas (OCT) — an open carry advocacy group — “pull[ed] up in the parking lot and start[ed] getting guns out of their trunks.” The group then waited in the parking lot for the four MDA members to come out. The spokeswoman said that the restaurant manager did not want to call 911, for fear of “inciting a riot” and waited for the gun advocates to leave. The group moved to a nearby Hooters after approximately two hours.

Have to wonder if the Hooter servers posed for the cause, the tips, or were being held hostage.
MDA later released a statement calling OCT “gun bullies” who “disagree[d] with our goal of changing America’s gun laws and policies to protect our children and families.” The statement added that the members and restaurant customers were “terrified by what appeared to be an armed ambush.” A member of OCT responded by tweeting, “I guess I’m a #gunbullies #Comeandtakeit.”

Willing to bet that tweet was sent by that charmer in the red shirt. He seems so nice.

Standing athwart the graves of murdered children

This bit of horribly bad taste got lost on a weekend. We're two months away from the sad anniversary of the Newtown massacre. These Second Amendment First / True Americans are planning pro-guns for all rallies at the mass murder site.
NEWTOWN -- First Selectman Pat Llodra is asking gun rights organizations to stay away from this town on Dec. 14, the first anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

Three national pro-guns groups had announced on Thursday that they would hold what they're calling "Guns Save Lives" rallies in all 50 states on the anniversary. [...]

"Using our day of mourning and remembrance to focus on the guns that took the lives of our children and teachers rather than celebrating their memories is disgraceful," said Newtown Action Alliance President Dave Ackert.
So who are these upstanding citizens, you ask?
The president of the Second Amendment Foundation said the rallies are intended to "show America that there is a good side to guns."

"Our mission with Guns Save Lives Day is to assure them our groups are working day and night to thwart government gun-grabbers at every opportunity," said Alan Gottlieb said.

The other groups behind the rallies are the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and DefendGunRights.com.

Larry Ward, founder of the DefendGuns organization, said the rallies are "designed to counteract what certainly will be a day of activism and misinformation from the gun prohibition lobby."
And of course, the gun nuts right to glorify the very weapons that killed the victims trumps the Newtown community's right to mourn their dead with dignity because, I imagine, the media will be there. Such nice people. [photo via]

Adventures in responsible gun ownership

Ye gods. Adam Kokesh is a bonafide crackpot:
The libertarian activist Adam Kokesh who called for and then canceled an armed march on Washington uploaded a YouTube video on July 4 that shows him loading a shotgun in the center of Freedom Plaza, Washington, D.C, near the White House. In the video, Kokesh cryptically warns, “We will not allow our government to destroy our humanity. We are the final American revolution. See you next Independence Day.”
You have to watch the video clip to appreciate the full scope of his insanity. This guy just exudes teh crazy.

This of course is wildly illegal in DC. The good news is he doesn't seem to have a huge following. One might assume the real reason he cancelled his giant armed march of freedom was because he didn't think he would get a good showing. Evidence being how sparsely attended his alternate July 4th protests were after he issued his call to arms.

Rand Paul fires the first shot at 2016

I want to shoot myself for even saying the words Election 2016, but it's clear the battle flags are being planted already. In the race to be first out on the field, Rand Paul issues a call to arms to rally round the paranoid gun hoarders.

In a blast email Rand tells the true believers there's an “anti-American globalist plot against our Constitution," led by none other than President Barack Obama in league with the UN. They're coming to take yer guns and destroy Murika. But have no fear. Rand Paul is willing to lead the troops to glory. He has a battle plan ready to go.
Direct mail. Phones. E-mail. Blogs. Guest editorials. Press conferences. Hard-hitting internet, newspaper, radio and even TV ads if funding permits. The whole nine yards. Of course, a program of this scale is only possible if the National Association for Gun Rights can raise the money.

But that’s not easy, and we may not have much time.

In fact, if gun owners are going to defeat the UN’s schemes, pro-gun Americans like you and me have to get involved NOW!

So please put yourself on record AGAINST the UN Gun Ban by signing NAGR’s Firearms Sovereignty Survey.

But along with your survey, please agree to make a generous contribution of $250, $100, $50 or even just $35.
Freedom ain't free and yer gonna need those guns when Rand leads you into battle against the agents of tyranny. (And if that doesn't work out, Mr. Paul is all set up for nice sinecure with the gun lobby.) Is Murika a great country, or what? [photo via] and [graphic via], true patriots.
