Talking points

If the situation was reversed, you can sure that Republicans would be using this statistic as a talking point:
Meanwhile, there’s a real deficit issue on the table: whether tax cuts for the wealthy will, as Republicans demand, be extended. Just as a reminder, over the next 75 years the cost of making those tax cuts permanent would be roughly equal to the entire expected financial shortfall of Social Security.
Instead our Democratic party is "negotitating" ways to give the GOP every cursed policy blunder they want, and without any guarantees that the GOP will deliver on their promises. In fact, recent history suggests they won't.

As I said at DetNews, the least the Dems could do, if they're intent on caving like a bowl of melting Jello, is demand the trade-off votes get taken first. As a "good faith" gesture.

Incredibly, the wingnuts are right to be confident that just because they totally sell the public out, they will not pay for it. With right wing media dominant, the facts don't matter.

That's the part that has me banging my head on my desk the most. I always thought the rise of the internets would lead to fact/reality based thinking. Seems to be reinforcing ignorance instead. That's where the money is apparently.

If you had any regard for facts, you'd realize that raising taxes and funding social security are different issues and different revenue sources. If you had any idea of what a fact was, you'd realize that even when tax rates were through the roof, tax revenue never accounted for more than 19% of GDP.

It is sad to see an uneducated, ignorant person attempting to play with the left wing elitists. In your efforts to be one of them, you seem to ignore facts in favor of your ignorant opinions.

It truly is, but at last you've admitted it - now repent and sin no more.

LOL Fogg. Reading comprehension does not seem to be their strong suit. Nor do they apparently understand how links work.

But I guess that's not surprising since the bloggers they go to to affirm their own prejudices don't bother to link to any supporting material. Probably because they so rarely have any factual reports to back up their agitprop.

Anon, Capt Fogg is here at my request and does me a great favor to maintain a presence here. He has full admin privileges and could delete your vapid, repetitive insults any time he wants. That he doesn't just do it, and takes the time to reply is a testament to his patience.

Your pestering him for attention is cute in boy crush kind of way, but your little ad homs have gone beyond the tautological to the point of being merely repetitive. Better trolling please.

Weird. I published Anon's last comment and it looks like Blogger decided to bleep it out themselves.

Perhaps he withdrew it himself. That seems more likely to me. I didn't do it. Maybe his mother found out and took away the computer? But yes, I read it.

Too bad, I've almost grown fond of Mr. "I'm not an economist but I watched Glenn Beck last night."

I've had so much experience with this kind of bluster and trollery and the only thing that keeps my interest is the amazing similarity of technique and the persistence they show in chewing their confected memes and fatuous fabrications like soggy doggy toys. I'm not a conspiracy freak, but you know -- it makes me wonder.

Anyway, they're all interchangeable. Perhaps they're trained to be that way, the way boiler room salesmen are trained to treat objections from a menu and never to depart from the script. Perhaps they get paid by the post and it really doesn't matter that they make no sense whatever and convince no one of anything. Ten bucks a post or something like that. A good argument for deleting him, actually.

Reality plays no real part in their ill informed, misinformed and sometimes malformed rhetoric, but I doubt he's delusional. Delusion is what he's selling.

The point of all his vituperation is to distract from the absence of any credentials, from the specious certainties and calmly irate slanders. The point is that we get too hot and bothered defending against the relentless idiocies to get to that overwhelming question: "who the hell are you that anyone should care what freeze dried, heat and serve, TV dinner opinions you're serving today?"

I don't suppose we'd get a response to that -- at least not an honest one.

I don't think he did it himself because it then it leaves a placemarker saying deleted by author. I KNOW I had to manually publish it from moderation. It was there for a few days. Then it just disappeared.

And this happened once before with a troll post. Only in that case I got a notice the post was published but it never showed up on the blog at all and it wasn't stuck in moderation. Must be a gremlin in the Blogger platform.

No great loss in any event.
