Sponsors stick with Michael Phelps

Here's some good news. You've of course heard that Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps was photograhed in flagrante delicto with a bong. Whatever other troubles he faces, at least his endorsements are safe. Visa, Speedo, Omega watches and PureSport's drinks are sticking with the swimmer. Kellogg Co hasn't yet decided if he will still grace your box of Frosted Flakes but the rest apparently aren't that alarmed by a little marijuana smoking.

For drug policy reformers, this could be considered progress. Time was there would have been a lot of huffing and puffing about teh "killer weed." On the other hand, his troubles aren't quite over. The state of South Carolina is still considering wasting public money in pursuing criminal charges. Seems kind of stupid considering the only physical evidence is a photo and his apology. [via]

Seven gold medals. Now they'll all be smoking it. Where's the next Olympics, Jamaica?

I wrote about this the other day and one thing that came up in the comments was the idea that NORML could use this in their publicity. What better example could they find combining casual use and super success.

But maybe they were too laid back to notice.

LOL Cosa.

Mike, I'm betting all the drug policy NGOs noticed.
