Bubbleheaded bipartisanship
While our professional media are busy analyzing the fine points of bipartisanship and why nothing that makes the GOPers unhappy is worth doing in DC, Dean Baker watches the votes and notices the Senate passed the Isakson amendment "which gives $15,000 (or 10 percent of the purchase price, whichever is lower) to every person who buys a home in 2009." Oh baby, let's reinflate that bubble and make the GOPers giggle.
It doesn't take an economics degree to figure out that this will benefit the people who are still doing okay and do almost nothing for the people who are struggling to hold on to their homes. Joshua Holland has an excellent piece explaining why this GOP trick is batshit crazy and why the Democrats' original proposal was better.
It's probably worth making some noise about this. Call your Senators and tell them this was a really bad idea.
