Oh happy day?

I am so sick of elite media journalists who think they have some God-given right to be entertained by politicians. Ben Smith goes tone deaf with this self-absorbed post on President-elect Obama's first presser.
This was, of course, a happy occasion for him, and some of the style may just be a matter of relief and happiness. But reporters who covered him for the last two years saw him grow progressively more careful and less funny.
A happy occassion? The man's grandmother, his last living ancestor who effectively raised him, died four days ago. At the very end of his campaign so he couldn't be at her bedside. He had just taken responsibility for the most colossal mess that any predecessor left behind. The international markets are in meltdown mode. The national deficit is at an all time high. We're occupying two countries at a cost we can't afford. Our foreign relations are teh suck. Our infrastructure is falling apart. And the global ecosystem is failing. Worse yet he has to stand by and watch Crawford's fool continue mucking up the works for another two and half months. And Smith thinks this is a happy occassion?

Is it too much to ask that our big soapbox journalists produce content that rises a bare modicum above the vapid chatter of the cocktail wienie circuit?

He sounded Presidential as hell, didn't he? He looked like this was his 400th press conference, not his first. He looked like the man in charge, like the man who is confident in himself and comfortable with who he is, didn't he?

The nabobs will never stop nattering, Malkin the Malicious and Limbaugh will never stop snarling or excreting slime, but goddammit, we have a President!

I'm still moved to tears so often it shocks me. I'm really not one to cry but dammit, we have our country back. We have a President we can be proud of. I love seeing the words -- President Obama.

Silly really. I know he's going to piss me off in no time, but jeez, what a huge step forward in restoring our country to greatness again.
