Hillary tells a whopper
by expatbrian
Far be it from me to put down a democrat but I feel that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Hillary decided to try to capitalize on her visit to one of the world's many hot spots by telling a blatant lie in an attempt to appear brave and tough. The evidence of the lie was filmed for all the world to see. How dumb can you get?
Then today she tried to minimize the damage by saying she "misspoke" and her campaign staff scrambled to cover for her. You've all heard the distasteful details.
Frankly, I find her behavior disgusting and inexcusable. We have brave, tough troops under fire every day. For her to lie to try to be like one of them is just as perverse as Rudy and his lie about time spent at ground zero.
I don't think she can or will put this episode behind her. If she became the candidate, McCain's people would pound her with it daily. She needs to get out now and throw all of her support behind Obama. To do anything else, to act as if she did nothing seriously wrong will just humiliate her and the party further.

While I quite agree with you, I think the Clintons are impervious to shame and humiliation.
I am particularly incensed at her lame excuse that she "mis-spoke." Sounded like a lie to me. What was she remembering; ANOTHER time when she was under sniper fire? When was that, I wonder? My son was stationed in Bosnia during this time and although they were under high alert, obviously, the worst thing that happened was the two MIGs that were shot down near the base. That was NOT when Clinton was there. Pathetic pandering!
Well, lest we come to think that any of them is channeling Honest Abe Romney didn't march with Martin King and Kerry wasn't really much of a duck hunter and Bush really did walk away from Military duty and get busted for DUI even though he said he didn't and they said they did. Reagan lied through his teeth about his secret wars and arms deals and welfare mothers and even Jimmuh had lust in his heart.
The way I look at it is that the ship is sinking and we're bickering about which lifeboat skipper has more library fines. Every president has had flaws and has fibbed and exaggerated and none have been anywhere near perfect. Lincoln made racist comments, after all and could never be elected today. In a country where the constitution is observed and the three branches are independent, the President doesn't matter that much anyway, but even a sniveling wimp like George can be a disaster when he's allowed to make his own rules. If we can succeed in reducing presidential power to where it ought to be, almost anyone would be better than what we have.
If we keep magnifying the smallest matter and using it to hysterically demonize our best choices, we're going to get the used war salesman McCain.
The perfect is the enemy of the good and we don't need perfect, we don't even need very good; we just need to get the dangerous and demented out of power and take the power away from madmen.
I feel the same way rock, the excuse is as bad as the lie. Fogg, I agree with you (of course). I think the difference with this lie is it got exposed so quickly. We didn't have to wait years to have it exposed.
In the bigger picture, considering the current state of political and international affairs, it is indeed a small thing. But small things can mushroom and if Hillary should somehow win, then walk into the world as a president with no credibility due to crap like this, we would all suffer. Again.
She's not my choice either, but God help us if another war loving, forked tongue Republican is elected.
Why do they feel compelled to do such things? Remember Giuliani's phone calls from his wife?
I decided not to touch this one myself, but it surely was a stupid move. That's the problem with Hillary. I don't think she understands the internet age. Everything you say can and will come back to bite you.
