Media Byte - Meeting Resistance

By Libby

I only have one byte this Sunday, that comes in via the comment section. Steve Connors and Molly Bingham, accomplished photojournalists who seperately covered many international conflicts, teamed up to make a documentary on the Iraqi insurgency employing the time honored tactic of getting down and dirty on the street, in lieu of the now customary "journalistic" tactic of regurgitating spoon fed Pentagon press releases.

The don't seem to have any clips available at their website on the project, but the description of the process and the content is certainly compelling.
MEETING RESISTANCE focuses on eight "insurgents", each with his or her own tale and reasons for opposing the American-led occupation, yet all people who within days of the fall of Baghdad were arranging themselves into resistance cells, finding the money and weapons to fight against the American military. The film witnesses how they began to organize themselves, reveals why they have decided to violently oppose the occupation of the country, and hears in their words the underlying ideological foundations to their fight and how and why those have changed over time.
Filmed over ten months starting around the beginning of the invasion and ending shortly after the destruction of Fallujah, the documentary promises a first hand look inside the very heart of the insurgency. I'm sorry to see I missed the US premiere in my neighborhood and it appears it's now showing outside of the country, but you can get on the mailing list for future screenings and a pending DVD release.

Looks to me like it's worth keeping an eye out for the film and in the interim, the site itself is an interesting read.

Hi Libby,

Thanks for the post. Just to let you know that there are some clips on the Meeting Resistance site, on the "characters" page:
http://meetingresistance.com/characters.html

They can take a little while to load up, depending on your connection.

We will also be getting a trailer up there in the next few weeks; we had a "coming soon" label on a trailer page but eventually became embarrassed by it.....

Fyi, we'll be doing a limited theatrical release in the fall and anticipate DVD availability at the same time.
