Elizabeth Edwards - a force of contention
By Libby
There was an old saw that was popular before feminist correctness made such sentiments verboten, that behind every successful man stands a strong woman. If anyone fits that template, it's Elizabeth Edwards.
Portrayed negatively as the dragon lady in the 04 campaign, the characterization of her involvement has softened in the media, probably out of deference to her cancer, but it doesn't diminish her formidable influence on his campaign. He's lucky to have her at, and on, his side.
Her instincts are solid, her advice is sound and despite the occassional kerfluffle generated by her candidness, her spontaneous contributions to the political discussion have been an overall positive for his candidacy and have elevated the public debate at time when most everyone else seems hellbent on debasing it.
If we picked a president based on his wisdom in choosing a wife, Edwards would win hands down.
