Irrational intel on Iran

By Libby

With everybody talking about the Libby case today, the NYT's hit piece on Iran got lost in the shuffle. Brought to you by Michael Gordon, the same hack who paved the road to Baghdad with uncritical reporting of the White House lies, this latest tripe is a replay of the psyops campaign of 2003. Relying on one military source, Gordon proffers "proof" of Iranian high government complicity in Iraq's mayhem, laughably based on one informant's testimony which was no doubt obtained under alternative interrogation.

And just who is this font of certainty that so reliably informs Mr. Gordon's assertions, you ask? Bernhard has the answer.
[Brig. Gen.]Kevin J. Bergner was named February 3, 2006, by President George W. Bush as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Iraq. Brigadier General Bergner recently served as Deputy Director of Political-Military Affairs (Middle East) at the Department of Defense. He received his bachelor's degree from Trinity University and his master's degree from City University of New York.

Berger left the White House and became spokesman for the U.S. military in Iraq only three weeks ago.

Move along folks. No possible chance of White House involvement in this guy's statements. I'm sure he's become an expert in insurgent movements in the last three weeks. Cheney did not write that press release for him.

Glenn has been on this story since this morning and updates that the Gordon has since rewritten the article to express some slight doubt on the General's scenario, but the damage is done. Not everyone will see the revisions and the meme is planted in the public record.

I don't think it's a good sign. As my favorite pundit Yogi Berra would say, it's deja vu all over again.

"alternative interrogation" - That's good, sort of like "information retrieval" from the movie "Brazil".

My favorite movie! Unfortunately it's no longer as surreal, absurd or funny as our New Amerika.

Oh I liked that movie too but nothing is as surreal or absurd as this country these days.
