Global Warming Will Affect U.S. Security

Eleven former generals and admirals have published a report warning of the security threat posed by climate change.
The report published by the CNA Corporation, a Washington-area national security think tank, and written by six retired admirals and five retired generals paints a dark picture of the world in the mid twenty-first century.
"Climate change exacerbates already unstable situations," former U.S. Army chief of staff Gordon Sullivan told Associated Press Radio. "Everybody needsto start paying attention to what's going on. I don't think this is a particularly hard sell in the Pentagon. We're paying attention to what those security implications are."

Drought, starvation and disease will spark mass migrations of the world's population and lead to wars over scarce natural resources. The U. S. will be drawn into these wars.
"Weakened and failing governments, with an already thin margin forsurvival, foster the conditions for internal conflicts, extremism and movement toward increased authoritarianism and radical ideologies," the report says.
"The U.S. will be drawn more frequently into these situations."

The Bush Administration has ignored or denied this problem for years and when they finally recognized it they only recommend voluntary reductions in carbon emissions.

In addition, with the security problems forecast to be thirty to forty years off, no one will recognize the critical nature of the problem. If we don't do something now, it will be too late and the problem of today's terrorism threat will seem like the good old days.

Andrew Weaver, a climatologist with the University of Victoria, said the flag officers were wise to highlight this coming crisis.

"There will be tens of millions of people migrating, where are we going to put them?" Weaver said. Weaver said that over the past years, scientists, who by nature are cautious, have been attacked by conservative activists when warning about climate change. This shows that it's not a liberal-conservative issue, Weaver said.

Mr. Weaver should know by now that the right-wing echo machine and the Rush Limbaughs and Sean Hannitys on hate-radio will have all of these ex-military leaders labeled as liberals or duped by liberal propaganda.
The truth means nothing to these people and they'll destroy anyone that voices a different opinion.
