When Laura slapped Condi

I didn't blog about the manufactured outrage over the Boxer-Condi remarks on children mainly because I thought it was a dumb controversy invented by the White House and wouldn't last more than a news cycle. However, I found this little pearl of anti-feminism more interesting. Via Mickey Kaus, who digs up the source of Nora's quote by Laura Bush.
The President also said there is no doubt in his mind that a woman candidate could be president, and the First Lady agreed. Mrs. Bush referenced Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and noted that while she would be a "really good candidate", Rice is not interested in the job.

"Probably because she is single, her parents are no longer living, she's an only child. You need a very supportive family and supportive friends to have this job," the First Lady said.
It would appear that Laura not only suggested a single woman didn't have the psychological resources to fulfil the requirements of the presidency, but also implied that Condi is a lonely orphan who has no real friends. Anybody remember the cries of outrage from the Rightopians on that one? Neither do I.
