Liberal pride

With all the talk on framing, this article takes a really pragmatic approach on how to combat the right wing spin by focusing on the failures of conservatism. Worth reading in full.

I posted this on my blog too and I had someone leave a comment that it wasn't fair to lump all conservatives together - or something to that effect. Anyway, I had to agree, but I think the point of the article is directed at those extreme conservatives who have managed to dominate the dialogue in this country. Not only have they hurt politics, they've also hurt the reputations of decent conservative and liberal people.

You know I thought I had seen it before somewhere and I'm not sure I agree with it totally myself but I thought it was in interesting read.

It sort of goes against my whole meme of trying to bridge the gap between ideologies but I thought it was a good lesson in how the right has managed to make liberal a dirty word.

We certainly need some appropriate meme for them.

True enough Hubris. But I think it should be a meme for the failure of the ideology as it's been practiced by those who self-identify with it. Or better yet would be to reframe the liberal meme and bring it back to its orginal connotation. A lot of people who call themselves moderates and even some conservatives are actually liberals under the old definition.
