He arrives like a thief in the night....

So Bush pays a surprise visit to Baghdad. Am I the only one that finds it somehow embarrassing the so-called leader of the free world has to sneak into a country he allegedly liberated? How awful is that really? Not to mention how irritating it must be to the PM. It's like having your boss, or rather the CEO of your company that you've never met, drop in for breakfast, unannounced, on a Saturday after you were out partying on a Friday night.

I have more thoughts posted at the DetNews.

at first i thought this was just a victory lap for the zarqawi killing, but now I think it was actually a good idea. There is very little attention paid to al maliki and the stuff going on in Iraq government now. So hopefully the news will focus on some of that.

good that he didn't trust the iraqi government enough to tell them he was coming lol

Lester, the reason there's little attention to the new government is because it's a disaster and the White House doesn't want attention paid to it. And how is it good that we can't trust the new government the US taxpayer paid billions of tax dollars and thousands of ruined lives to install?

I was being sarcastic. Obviously the extreme security was a testament to the failure of the entire endevour. how come there wasn't a parade for Bush in the streets of baghdad lol. But I think al maliki is alright and it's good Bush went and said hi

Sorry, lester, I can't always tell when you're being sarcastic. I still don't see what the surprise visit accomplished except to make Bush look like some kind of gloating victor over the Zarqawi death.

And as he strutted around so proud of his bravery and comitment to freedom, iraqi children were having limbs blown off. I made a photo collage of two pics takedn that afternoon.
