Rove not out of the woods yet

The latest word from the shadowy insiders who are never named, is that Rove is still on Fitzgerald's radar after all and may be making a hasty exit whether or not he's actuallly indicted. Time takes a look at how Rove's departure from the White House might be spun. They start out with the ever popular family obligations. Then segue into he's tired of the Beltway and his work is largely done. Hard to see how they figured that one though. Bush is like playing with a two year old. Every time you build something with the blocks, the tyke's greatest delight is in knocking it down, not in admiring it's utility. One is always rebulding. However, it's beginning to look like a question of when and not if, Rove will be leaving the president's side.

Even if he doesn't do the froggy walk for his treason, (and I admit I would dearly love to see him pay -- just once -- for his dirty deceits), it appears it will be impossible to spin his complicity in the Plame leak and more importantly, his lying cover up of his involvement, as an inconsequential act - no matter how hard the blogging Bushtopians try to do so. Insiders believe he is just waiting for a politically expedient moment to make the shift - to minimize the appearance that he's being run out of town on a rail. Even more encouraging is this thought.
...he's got one constituency rooting for him, the [fringe] conservatives who rely on him to be their voice. If he leaves, he will not be alone. Several well-wired Administration officials predict that within a year, the President will have a new chief of staff and press secretary, probably a new Treasury Secretary and maybe a new Defense Secretary.
The bottom line is the imagined political capital has all been spent long ago and in fact is way in the red right now. It appears, Rove, like any self-respecting rat will run for the gangplank and get off before the ship of state sinks completely. Not as satisfying as an indictment, but I'll take the demise of their Grand Scam and be happy.
