Save Jabbar Gibson
As regular readers know, I've been very disturbed by the treatment of Jabbar Gibson who was arrested for saving evacuees of NOLA by confiscating an abandoned school bus and driving them out of harm's way. Thanks to a group of concerned citizens, perhaps he will receive the praise he deserves instead of the punishment he didn't. They have started a petition asking for Congressional intervention in order to honor his bravery, as it should have been honored from the beginning.
Please take a moment to read it and sign if you also agree that Jabbar was a hero - not a criminal.

I just signed and am amazed that I am only
number 372. This guy's action is in the
tradition of how us Europeans see the very
best of American-ness, wild-west style
bravery bordering on recklessness.
To ask him afterwards "do you have a driving licence" has got to be a joke ? No ?
While the Shrub was on holiday pretending
to play the guitar in public, the kid was
in action, and deserves to have a book and
a film made of his adventure.

Just curious - is the Jabar Gibson booked with booked with "possession of a stolen car and resisting arrest" in New Orleans on 8/18/05 the same as the kid who stole the bus during Katrina and drove it to Houston? The photos look similar... Not trying to defame Jabbar Gibson the hero. Whomever he was before Katrina, he made a choice to help people. I have heard that some young "thugs" ended up becoming the only people to save their neighbors. Its a complicated story. Would appreciate if a reporter investigated this story further.
