Dems dump Colbert candidacy

By Libby

Well, I'm unsurprised but still thoroughly disgusted that the SC Dems refused to put Colbert on the ballot. The Democrats ruled him out as an 'unserious' candidate when he was polling over two other candidates they allowed on and the Republicans priced him out. That's just not right.

This is supposed to be America where anybody can grow up to be president. The major parties have locked up the system to the point where you can't run without their permission. I hope this doesn't discourage Colbert from pursuing the run. His candidacy is bigger than the joke. It's a sort of parody parable that points up what's wrong with the whole system.

The obvious answer is to wage a write in campaign. Enterprising young fans could organize Colbert chapters, in every state even, independent of the candidate so the FEC laws wouldn't kick in and Colbert has material for the show right through 08. If there's a downside, I don't see it. Colbert should carry on.

Who wouldn't want to vote for guy who is this much fun on Halloween?
