White House sidesteps confirmation process - again

Don't they ever sleep at the White House? One wonders what new evil intent lurks in this sudden purge of US Attorneys? A few days ago San Diego U.S. Attorney Carol Lam, best known for taking down Duke Cunningham and triggering further GOP corruption investigations, was terminated suddenly under flimsy excuses. Today we learn Daniel Bogden, U.S. Attorney for Nevada and New Mexico U.S. Attorney David Iglesias have been given their walking papers while at the same time, the White House is utilizing a little noticed provision in the Patriot Act to circumvent the customary Senate confirmation process and is installing highly partisan replacement U.S. Attorneys on "interim appointments" that have no required end date. Where does the destruction of our system of checks and balances end?

I'm going to keep repeating this until somebody listens. Congress needs to forget about non-binding resolutions and more show than substance oversight hearings and simply revoke the meaures that gave Bush the power to claim unilateral privilege. If they rescind the "war" resolution and the Patriot Act, we would be a long way forward towards restoring our government to some semblence of its former democratic processes and put some real brakes on this megalomaniac who calls himself Commander-in-Chief at the same time.
