Probably could have melted the snow with all that hot air

Gasbag Governor Chris Christie explains why he fled New Jersey, barely beating out the blizzard, in order to go to Disneyworld. His smarmy excuses are laughable. He makes a good case for his Lt. Gov. to have taken her trip, but since they both knew in June that their plans conflicted, he could have changed his well in advance and still kept his promise to take his kids to see Mickey.

Meanwhile, he took a break from grandstanding against "big government" long enough to send a request for federal funds to deal with the disaster he left behind. Even more precious, Christie blasted the state's snowbound residents and local mayors for failing to take personal responsibility for their plight.
When asked about the hundreds of people trapped in their homes for days, Christie said unless they lived on state roads, it's not something his administration would have been able to change.

If someone is snowed into their house, that's not our responsibility," Christie said.

When asked about mayors who said they were forced to divert their resources to unplowed state roads instead of clearing local roads Christie said, "I know who these mayors are and they should buck up and take responsibility for the fact that they didn't do their job."
He then goes on to blame his wife for forbidding him from cancelling the trip just because a huge blizzard was about to paralyze the state he's supposedly in charge of running. And adding to the irony, Christie has several times criticized lawmakers for being on vacation, and he has threatened to make them work over the July 4 holiday if they could not pass a property tax cap. All this leaves local political observers wondering about his future in politics.

And, going back to the video in the first link, Christie claims that there was no need to divulge the personal details that led to both himself and his Lt. Governor being absent at the same time to the voters. Perhaps someone could refresh him on the definition of public servant. Giving up privacy is a part of the deal but I guess when you're a conservative hero, accountability and taking personal responsibilty is only for the "little people."

As the saying goes, elections have consequences and the most delicious irony is the counties hardest hit by the storm also voted overwhelmingly to put this smarmy gasbag into office. Wonder how they like him now?

If you are going to rant complain about the Governor of NJ taking a vacation during a snow storm, when can we expect to see you criticism of the President for doing the same thing?

How do you "rant complain?" Aren't those two separate things? And of course criticism is a noun, not a verb -- you don't criticism of something, OK?

Anyway, I guess you expect the President to stay home when it snows in New Jersey. That's great and I bet you yelled your head off when Dumbya set the all time record for number of vacation days for any American president. You knew that, right? He was on vacation and went to a party while New Orleans drowned. Didn't get around to his job for days afterward. Bet you're still hoarse from howling about that one, right? He went on vacation and stayed on vacation during the worst natural disaster in many years. But he's white of course, and a Republican, so it doesn't count.

Now a Governor? Well his responsibility is to his state and going to Disneyland is a stupid thing. A president isn't a Governor or a Mayor or a snow plow driver, but hell, you just hate the man and you gotta say something, right? Even if it's the stupidest, most infantile thing I've heard in quite a while. Maybe you expect him to shovel your driveway? Pick up the garbage?

You know, Obama isn't beyond criticism at all, but as long as we concentrate on making the dumbest, most irrelevant comments and demonstrating our total ignorance of the American system of government, legitimate criticism isn't heard. Of course legitimate criticism would require someone smarter than a fifth grader and this is our brave new America.

Christie is the most corrupt politician in the history of NJ. All he cares about his pandering to wealthy donors.

Governing? Christie couldn't care less.

Capt Fogg..if it makes you feel better to rant over a typo, feel free to do so.

Relative to the Christie and Obama..According to the NWS, the snowstorm that Ms Spencer blogged about impacted a major part of the Eastern Coast, not just NJ. Is your "rationale" that the snowstorm didn't hit all 50 states President Obama gets a pass?

As far as "Even if it's the stupidest, most infantile thing I've heard in quite a while." save your criticism for your fellow blogger. Double standards based on party affiliation seem to be one of her norms.

One last reminder..Bush is not President. Obama is. even a "fifth grader" understands that.

Everybody deserves a vacation, but Christie's job is take care of New Jersey. He flew off literally into the teeth of the storm, which at that point was known to be a serious blizzard. From what I've read, NJ was hit the hardest of all the states and the state didn't do its job on cleanup. If you read the links, four days later there were still major state roads that weren't cleared. And the gasbag gov had the nerve to blame the mayors for not doing THEIR job?

And pretty funny for a "states rights" guy to be blaming the chief federal exec for not interfering in a state problem.

There's that double standard again. I hear that from plenty of people who didn't think the Government should have done a damned thing for New Orleans, but Obama should simply never get a day off because there's always some snow storm, but a Republican counterpart can spend half his time 'cutting brush' and playing air guitar while still telling us we have to give up some freedom because there's a "war on."

No, Bush is not President, but he was president for eight years and unless you've decided that there are two sets of job descriptions for presidents of two different parties, this statement now takes the place of the other in being the stupidest thing I've heard yet this morning. Of course there's still plenty of time.

Is this "ranting?" Well I guess it depends on whether you agree or not and evidently you don't, but clumsy English and clumsy thought often go together and I think it's funny -- sorry. It's easier to call it ranting than to spend a moment thinking about what you actually said and why it makes no sense.

Please also remember who started the condescending bout of cynical snickering and arch condemnation and ask yourself why such disrespect commands the cringing deference you seem to feel is your due.

Being the most corrupt politician in NJ history would be quite an accomplishment, not that other states don't breathe the same air.

But caring about the wealthy donors is what politics has become since it's all about money. Popular opinion is bought, not derived from rational observation and it comes at a high price, particularly now that the corporatist court has allowed unlimited corporate spending.

"...that the corporatist court has allowed unlimited corporate spending..."

A level playing field must be causing your blood to boil. It was alright for unions to confiscate part of a workers wages and spend it on every left wing Democrat who runs for office, but we mustn't allow non-union entities that same right.

For a so called intellectual, I find you boring and uninteresting. Your responses are predictable and straight out of the left wing playbook. Like Spencer, you are a total and complete hypocrite.

Perhaps you *might* talk to your fellow blogger. (the source of the "cynical snickering" over a non event.)

I have no problem with President Obama being on vacation during a major snowstorm, Tornado's, etc... I have no problem with the Gov of NJ doing the same thing.

If you want to defend partisan double standards in this little forum, feel free to do so.

The knee-jerk reactions to tie this to or blame President Obama just really peeve me. If you're going to blame Obama for taking a vacation, why not blame the federal government while you're at it? Why not blame ALL the senators and representatives who took vacations during the blizzard? Or Hillary Clinton, or Joe Biden? Why specifically does blame, cynicism, and criticism ALWAYS have to be shifted up towards President Obama, and ONLY President Obama specifically, for EVERYTHING, as though he were some messiah who's supposed to micromanage and fix all the problems everywhere in our nation and abroad?

I spilt some milk on the counter the other day... fricking Obama, he should clean up after me! He's the President for crying out loud, and if it happens in his country on his time, he needs to come down and fix it, my problems which are obviously also his problems!

Yeah, right. You'd either have to be utterly naive or delusional to think the President has to take up EVERYTHING that occurs in our nation. Why do you think we have a government with a cadre of elected representatives? This isn't all a one-man show you know!

If you want somebody who can do everything everywhere with no help from anyone, let's just get rid of the whole government right now and have Chuck Norris handle everything. Chuck Norris for President 2012! >:D

And let's say President Obama DID decide to up and leave his vacation to directly intervene on these matters. The same people would still find SOME reason to criticize him. I can hear it now... "Obama is trying to fix these blizzard problems, but he isn't showing enough emotion", or even "Obama said he was going to kick this Blizzard's ass? What an uncalled for show of emotion!" Or how about, "Obama is intervening on the blizzard issue? Well, he should be focusing on the massive deficit, and leave state responsibility to the states! He's obviously trying to expand federal government into what's clearly a state issue, like the evil Socialist Communist Muslim he is!" You certainly won't hear any cheers from anybody if Obama lifts a finger to do anything here, just like with the BP Oil spill in the gulf, it'll just be another exercise in finding what's wrong with what he's doing, and conveniently ignoring anything that goes right.

I think anyone can see that at the moment this is a state issue and a state concern, and shouldn't be interfered with by the federal government until it clearly cannot be managed at the state level.

For this reason I give Obama a pass for now, and not Governor Christie, who should be most intimately aware of the needs and resources in his state, and who SHOULD be taking responsibility for this blizzard's effect on the state whose interests he was elected to represent.

At least, he should until he either proves that he's unable or unwilling. Though it looks like he's already proving the unwilling part, when he's so easily excusing himself and casting responsibility elsewhere.

And judging from some of these comments, looks like he's not the only one.

fine, then go away, but your uncontrollable obsession ( and temper) seems to call your boredom into question..

Perhaps you might remember the "ugly stupid failure hag" and recall how you've been using this place as a spitoon. Double standard? Jesus.

But I'm tired of wasting my time talking trash with you and it's so easy to hit "delete."

You're absolutely right. Keep in mind that since Nixon's humiliation, they've been trying to find equivalent "crimes" for every Democratic president. Whitewater was phrased to copy every charge against Nixon and this silly thing is all about showing yet another false equivalence between the thousands allowed do die while Bush ate cake and danced and a snowstorm that didn't get cleared fast enough.

If Obama had somehow declared an emergency and called in the troops to plow snow, we'd have heard all kinds of noise about tyranny and fascism, but that's how it is with dishonest and deranged people. First comes the anger and hate - then come the excuses for it.
