It can drive 55

This makes me very happy. I've been waiting forever for the Google car that drives itself. The tests are impressive.
With someone behind the wheel to take control if something goes awry and a technician in the passenger seat to monitor the navigation system, seven test cars have driven 1,000 miles without human intervention and more than 140,000 miles with only occasional human control. One even drove itself down Lombard Street in San Francisco, one of the steepest and curviest streets in the nation. The only accident, engineers said, was when one Google car was rear-ended while stopped at a traffic light.
Robot cars. And the Google guys really invented them. Would like to know how they do in say, Boston or Atlanta, but love that I lived long enough to see this happen.

Yeah, this is definitely about half a century earlier than I expected. I wonder how would switch.

Wow, maybe someday these geeks will invent a robot to do everything that living beings do and we won't even have to be born -- or we can continue being fetuses in a titanium egg somewhere, hooked up to virtual reality or watching the machines play.

Everything would be very safe.

I was thinking more in terms of how much fun it would be to drive if the really bad drivers had robo-cars...

Robotic airplanes aren't just possible, they're proven technology. Would you fly in one?

When we had street cars, we didn't need this Sci-Fi pie in the sky technology. And we liked it that way.
