Happy Birthday Women's Sufferage
The USA is 234 years old. Women have only had the right to vote for 90 years.
A lot of changes for women's rights happened even later, both socially and in the workplace. Also racial discrimination was only outlawed 46 years ago. Remember that whenever you get frustrated by the glacially slow pace of political change.

I read an article this morning about an annual survey showing that today's college freshmen have never heard of Czechoslovakia, and can't identify who Beethoven or Michelangelo were -- and a lot of other astonishing things. Mention that Obama's lowest approval rating is higher than Reagan's and watch their jaws wag.
How can we expect them to remember a reality different than what they hear on Fox; to realize that things were not better in a mythical past? All they know about the civil rights struggle is what the losers tell them.
I once had a martial arts instructor who was fond of saying "the fight is not over when you knock your opponent down." And indeed it isn't. Maybe it never is in a world of pervasive ignorance and near universal stupidity.
I'm not so sure they're actually stupid. But the wilfull ignorance is mind blowing.
