Worth Breaking My Embargo For
As you know I've declared this an (almost) Palin-free zone, but Jay Rosen got me with this intro: "This is the only piece I've read on Palin recently that even comes close to explaining the damn thing." And I have to agree, Matt Taibbi is dead on in his assessment of Palinmania. Hard to pick the excerpts:

Sarah Palin is the Empress-Queen of the screaming-for-screaming’s sake generation. The people who dismiss her book Going Rogue as the petty, vindictive meanderings of a preening paranoiac with the IQ of a celery stalk completely miss the book’s significance, because in some ways it’s really a revolutionary and innovative piece of literature.Seriously worth a read in full and I don't make that recommendation lightly. Now that made my Sunday! ;-)
One of the better lines. Loved the whole piece though myself.
Sarah is unaware that she is to people of intelligence and sense nothing more than a dangerous joke.
In her mind, she is Thomas Jefferson with female genitalia.
Sure, and TJ was a Christian Conservative too. Her supporters insist that we hate her and therefore nothing we say about her is honest - and of course we're all "elitists."
The joke is on anyone who thought Democracy could survive in an ignorant and superstitious rabble.
Truth, I'm rather convinced she has no contact with reality. But she's not stupid. She's very clever at manipulation, and she's making it pay off for herself.
Fogg, I hope we can survive it. There are days I hope that Rapture thing is true and I live to see these people face their judgment from their God.
