My predictions for tonight's RNC

Sarah Palin will give a great speech. She will lie her face off.

The GOP base will go wild and proclaim that this proves she is a true reformer who is ready to lead.

They will not see the irony in that they have been accusing Obama of being a candidate who only makes great speeches but is too inexperienced to lead.

The punderati will declare this brilliant stroke a gamechanger.

Everyone else will say yes, it was a great speech but she lied her face off and by the way when is she is going to give a press interview and -- you know -- answer questions about her vast knowledge of world and domestic affairs.

The base will howl about how the left is 'attacking' Palin with the facts and they're being mean to her because she is a good, God fearing Christian woman.

The McCain campaign will issue an outraged statement saying the Democrats have crossed the line with this over the top line of attack and use it as an excuse to avoid any future press avail.

Somewhere, in an undisclosed location, Karl Rove will be chortling and popping a bottle of champagne.

A new president has been sworn into office due to the passing of the old. It is 3:00 am in the morning. Such-and-such country has just invaded another when the telephone call comes in.

Meanwhile, the new president, who does not approve of contraception or birth control of any kind, is having morning sickness or cramps or has just gone into labor.

Sorry about the sexism, folks, but this scenario is plausable. One would feel more confident in having a woman as president who at least practices birth control and would not put herself in this position. Do you think Palin would take a vow abstinence during her term in office to allay such fears?

OK, now tell me what a no-good sexist bastard I am how outraged you are.

anonymous, as a woman I too have reservations about having Palin as president. She lacks experience in anything but the local arena of Alaska which is not much more than an icy outpost. She has 5 kids, one of which is only 5 months old and has special needs. She has a pregnant teenage daughter and, as you have pointed out, she doesn't believe in birth control so it is not beyond belief that she could get pregnant again while in the White House. I think she needs to choose; family or country. I just don't think she'll be able to handle both.

I'm not worried about the mother thing. She can juggle kids and a career. It's that she is completely clueless about world affairs, or even national affairs. Hell I know more about politics than she does, and I'm no wonk.

The Secretary of Defense briefed the new President this morning. “Madam President,” he said, “Three Brazilian soldiers were killed in Iraq.” President Palin collapsed on her desk, head in hands and visibly shaken, almost whimpering. Finally, she composed herself and asked the Secretary of Defense, “Just exactly how many is a brazillion?”
