Anthrax

I've never written about it, but I always thought the timing of the attacks were odd, as were the targets of the attacks. And considering the Bush administration's track record on lying about just about everything, it did seem rather suspicious that they didn't pursue the case more vigorously at the time or later.

Of course, we know the first guy they targeted as a perp was wrongly accused and has since won a huge settlement in court for having his life ruined with the accusation. Now suddenly they zeroed in on a new perp, who conveniently commited suicide before the case could go to trial. Glenn has been documenting the oddities around this and uncovers a really weak link in the government's allegations against the now dead guy.
But had he dropped the letters in the mailbox before 5:00 p.m. on September 17, the letters would have borne a September 17 postmark, rather than the September 18 postmark they bore...
I don't think we'll ever find out the truth on this one, but I'm ready to put on my tinfoil hat and join Buzzflash on this theory. I find it entirely possible that Cheney could have engineered the whole thing to intimidate the Democrats who stood in the way of passing the Patriot's Act at the time.
