Happy Anniversary

By Libby

I'm a couple of days late with this one, but this is such a fitting tribute for the occassion and I do so love me some Yeats.

I love WBY more as time goes by. People have been quoting the hell out of "The Second Coming" but "Nineteen Hundred and Nineteen" is so appropriate to our times in so many ways.

Now days are dragon-ridden, the nightmare
Rides upon sleep: a drunken soldiery
Can leave the mother, murdered at her door,
To crawl in her own blood, and go scot-free;

Remind you of Blackwater in Iraq? Apparently there will be no consequences to its murder of civilians. Of course he was talking about the English Army, but now we are the colonial power the world loves to hate.

I need to read more poetry and less news. The poetry makes more sense and it soothes with its beauty.
