Excess Hoggage - Would I Lie to You Edition

By Libby

Song in my head.

That song has been stuck in my head since I read about Rove's lies, that incomprehensibly he keeps repeating. Even the fringers in the comment section at the Detroit News are laughing at the notion that the Democrats forced Bush to invade Iraq.

Speaking of lies, the NYT finally called out Rudy on some of his. I wasn't as excited by it as some were. I thought it was kind of wimpy. It doesn't sound as polite as "false" or "exaggerated" but hey, if it's not true, the honest thing to call it is a lie.

And Rudy's excuses for ordering round the clock protection for his mistress are looking thin when one considers the current mayor's live-in companion has no security at all.

I have a theory that the ability to live with high levels of cognitive dissonance may explain why a majority of Republicans consider their mental health to be excellent. The NYT Opinionator quoted me on this post. Nice of them to give me two links in one week. I like it. I hope they do it again someday.

Dana Perino really pissed me off . There's no excuse for her rudeness to Helen Thomas.

Also inexcuable is this legalized highway robbery. States are collecting child support payments and keeping the money instead of passing it on to the children. What kind of stupid, inhumane policy is that? They should be embarrassed.

In fact some Republicans are apparently so embarrassed they no longer want to be associated with the Republican brand. So many GOPers quit in Wisconsin that they had to disband a county chapter of the party.

Meanwhile, it looks like Chavez is going to get his constitutional reforms. I posted a bunch of links to a counter narrative on what it all means. I don't know what to make of it myself. I just know there's two sides to that story and I don't feel any need to be in the middle of it.

People are still noticing that the success of the poppy eradication in Afghanistan is leading to an increase in marijuana culitvation. I continue to think that's a positive development. Better black hash, than black tar heroin.

On a lighter note, under the heading heavenly irony, it turns out the Creation Museum is built on one of the richest fossil beds in the country.

And finally, if you haven't clicked any links, please follow this one and vote for my friend Scott in the ABA's poll. I'd love to see him get recognition for his work.

Just read your post C. I have a sense that it's probably good that it didn't pass, for a number of reasons.

Whatever Lester. Apparently he's not the wannabe dictator that everyone was painting him as. So far, it looks like he's accepted the result.
