Talk Talk Talk and Saying Nothing

Today Mr. Bush made a speech about the Iraqi funding bill and could find no soldiers to use as a back drop. So he used veterans instead. I guess they were the next best thing.

He invited the democratic leadership to discuss the bill but again emphasized that there could be no timetable for withdrawal. Again more talk, but no negotiations.

House and Senate democratic leaders said they were willing to discuss and negotiate without previous conditions.

The engineer of the Democratic takeover of the House in last November's elections, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, had even stronger words for the president.
"Democrats are ready and willing to meet with President Bush to discuss how we can change direction in Iraq," he said in a statement.
"However, the President's requests for a blank check for war and an open-ended commitment of U.S. troops are unacceptable to the American people. After four years, more than 3,000 American lives and hundreds of billions of tax dollars, the President may just want another meeting, but our objective is to bring a new direction to Iraq policy."

Mr. Emanuel is right on the mark, it's time to tell the American people like it is. George is not king and he needs to be reminded of that on a daily basis.

Ending this conflict in Iraq is important to the American people, continuing it seems to be only important to Mr. Bush.
