Newt - I am not a hypocrite

You can call Newt Gingrich a lot of things, but uninteresting wouldn't be one of them. In a moment of extreme piousness, he admits he was having an extra-martial affair, even while he was pursing Clinton over a consenual sexual act with an all too willing intern, and asks for forgiveness. Well no worries for Newt. The rightwingers are in a forgiving mood. Hell they're full of compassion and forgiveness for all fallen Republicans this week.

They forgive Newt for cheating on his wives and other gross hypocricies because what the heck -- he didn't lie under oath about it. They forgive Ann Coulter for making tasteless "jokes" about gays and killing liberals, Democrats, judges and family planning doctors because what's a little black humor among friends and besides her hate-mongering is so on target otherwise. They forgive their award winning, former gay prostitute who specialized in sado-masochistic sex because he repented his evil ways.

But they can never forgive Clinton for lying about that blow job because according to their logic, he destroyed the credibility of his office, and according to Ann Althouse also destroyed feminism, with that one act. However, Scooter Libby is forgiven for lying to a grand jury because he was a victim of a "partisan prosecutor," (who was inexplicably appointed by a Republican administration) because hey, after Armitage came forward two years later and "confessed," it made Scooter's lies moot and he should have never have been prosecuted for it.

Oh, and never mind that the weight of evidence is now heavy enough to sink an aircraft carrier showing that Bush and Cheney lied us into a disastrous war and caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands, or at least tens of thousands if you prefer the conservative estimates, because hey, they didn't lie under oath either and at least they didn't lie to a grand jury about one brief sexual escapade. Not to mention Clinton commited the mortal sin of having sex while being a Democrat.

Don't get me wrong. I forgive almost everybody for their human folibles, but these are the same "compassionate" conservatives that accuse "the left" of moral relativism? Pay no attention to that muffled boom you're hearing. That's just my head exploding.
