If Iraq was sex - these guys would have herpes
Glenn Greewald takes on the self-absorbed illogic of Thomas Friedman and other self-congratulating Beltway foreign policy punderati and sums up the fatal flaw in their rhetoric succinctly with this short list.
What we need is an abstinence-only program for the rhetoric of these fantasy-based, ass-covering pundits.

(1) It is immoral to stay in Iraq if we don't send in more troops. And they call the stauch anti-war proponents kooky? This is the equivalent of saying:
(2) We are not going to send in more troops.
(3) I oppose withdrawal and think we should stay in Iraq.
(1) It is unsafe to have unprotected sex with a carrier of an STD.The outcome is predictably disastrous but somehow simply stating opposition to a foolhardy action is supposed to absolve them from responsibility for spreading the disease. They are praised for their credibility and serious concern about safe sex, while those who refuse to have intercourse without protection are judged as frigid and deluded dilettantes.
(2) I don't have a condom.
(3) I oppose unprotected sex but I'm going to have it anyway because I want to prove my prowess and really want to have an orgasm.
What we need is an abstinence-only program for the rhetoric of these fantasy-based, ass-covering pundits.

Good analogy!
Thanks thehim. It means a lot coming from you.
thomas friedman and david brooks are fools. they have never been anything but wrong about this war. the only reason anyone listens to them is they dumb down everything so people who watch Oprah can understand it.
You'll get no argument from me on that point Lester.
