GOP schism grows

Karl Rove promised the GOP clear sailing to a permanent majority but with each day that passes the party looks more like the Titanic. If they keep on their present course, they appear certain to crash into the rigid ideology that defines the crazy faction of their base and sink into oblivion. Today in an open letter to the GOP at HuffPo, Frank Schaeffer jumps ship.
Republicans are today's fifth column sabotaging American renewal... President Obama has been in office barely 45 days and the Republican Party has the nerve to blame him for the economic and military cataclysm he inherited... You had the chance to put our country first. You utterly failed to rise to the occasion.

The worsening economic situation is your fault and your fault alone. The Republicans created this mess through 8 years of backing the worst president in our history and now, because you put partisan ideology ahead of the good of our country, you have blown your last chance to redeem yourselves. You deserve the banishment to the political wilderness that awaits all traitors.
The GOP is adrift on a sea of madness. Schaffer is hardly a party loyalist at this point, but he was instrumental in their rise. If he's willing to publicly call their current course treasonous, perhaps the GOPers should find a new captain rather than rely on their boatswain Limbaugh to save the ship. Or should that be boatswine? [graphic]

Being a Democrat I sort of like watching the Republicans squirm.

Being an American, I find it somewhat worrisome.

I would love to see a true debate over the good of honest liberalism versus the good of honest conservatism. Honest liberalism has been, until very recently, hiding under a rock. And honest conservatism was swallowed by Limbaugh and his ilk, only to reappear in the demented, fecal form of neo-conservatism.

I expect the GOP will be wandering for many, many years.

I feel the same way Brian. The current situation isn't healthy.
